Establishing an equipping framework

Fade line

2. A strategy - fixing God's people so they work

Almost all 'successful' churches have worked hard to find a framework for equipping people. They don't just run ad hoc programmes and hope it fits together - they make sure it does!

  • Cell church practitioners make strategic use of Sunday teaching followed up application in cell meetings, with additional equipping track processes for new believers, trainee cell leaders, etc.
  • SaddlebackG12 churches have a clear understanding of the need to win, consolidate, disciple and send and establish resources to faciliate these processes: a clear understanding of what they are trying to accomplish in G12 and open cell groups; consolidation materials and encounters to establish new Christians; the school of leaders to disciple everyone
  • Purpose Driven churches establish intentional discipleship processes, using the 'baseball square' model (right) developed by Rick Warren and Saddleback Church.

Let's be clear. As Salt and Light we aren't pushing any particular model, but we do think every church should be thinking carefully about such matters.

Jesus' strategy for his 'church for all nations' was to disciple people - he was purposeful, not random! - then surely we too should have the same priority?
